To help celebrate America’s birthday of 250 years
the Washburn County Fair’s Barnyard Bash theme
meets Red, White and Blue! Scarecrows must be
dressed as Uncle Sam, but with a barnyard twist -
think patriotic flair blended with rural charm, humor,
and creativity.
Design rules
*Must be a freestanding scarecrow or anchored in a bale of hay or straw.
*Clearly recognizable as Uncle Sam (elements like a top hat, red/white/blue colors, stars, stripes, iconic beard, etc)
*Must include at least one barnyard element such as: Hay or straw bale, corn stalks, farm animals, farm tools or equipment.
*Use weather-friendly materials as these will be displayed outside.
*No political messaging – this is patriotic fun, not politics.
 
When: Bring your Uncle Sam Scarecrows to the fairgrounds anytime Monday, July 20th to the 23rd 2026, by 4:00pm.
Where: Bring them to the office in Exhibition Hall for Numbering and Placement.
Who: Everyone is welcome to join the fun! Two age categories will be offered: Youth 16 and under, adults 17 and older.
Judging criteria: Creativity and originality 30pts, Craftsmanship 30 pts, Use of theme 20 pts, Overall patriotic presentation 20 pts
