Short Wave - Weekly Saturday Ecstatic Dance in Spokane

Short Wave is an experimental ecstatic dance format. No facilitation. Just dance and community hosted by two ecstatic dancers with 20 years of experience. Dancers will find a safe, intentional space for healing, connection, and rejuvenation.

We'll dance a single 45-minute wave. It's a weekly supplement to other dance options in Spokane and CDA.

We wanted to create time and space in our busy schedules (and budget) for more intentional movement. It is not intended as a replacement for other community ecstatic or conscious dance options that we also attend but rather as an adjunct to them. We longed for dance mixes (and the sacred spaces that hold them) inspired by the ecstatic dance traditions of the 70s and 80s as they were reimagined in the Los Angeles ecstatic dance scene of the early 2000s.

In those spaces, we found the safety to work through pain, emotional bottlenecks, express joy and wonder, reconnect with our inner selves, and enter trance states, if we felt called to do so. No disruptions. No judgement. Just a growing flow of energies and our awareness of them within and all around us as we moved. We invite other experienced ecstatic dancers seeking such a space to experience this sympathy of movement. Bring your practice and join us.

Dancers with at least 5 years of consistent ecstatic dance practice or workshop experience in 5Rhythms, Soul Motion, Nia, JourneyDance, etc. will likely appreciate this dance format.

Beginners are also welcome when accompanied by a more experienced dancer.

Dance Hosts

Christopher Brannan discovered ecstatic dance in Los Angeles with Jo Corbett and Micheal Molin-Skelton in 2005. He is an inspired mix master with a sense of the funky and the sacred.

Kai Dailey attended ecstatic dance for the first time at The Electric Lodge in Los Angeles with Micheal Molin-Skelton in 2008 and continued her study of ecstatic dance with Michael through workshops. She is a registered Yin Yoga instructor through the Yin Yoga Foundation. Her spiritual influences include Deng Ming-Dao and American Daoism, Pema Chodron and Shambhala Buddhism, archetypical psychology, hatha and taoist yoga traditions. Kai has received personal training with Paulie Zink, Dr. Clarissa Estes, and Michael Molin-Skelton.
