The Alchemy of Soap Colorants
If you had fun the first time, let’s do it again… this time with COLOR! Join our advanced colorants workshop and immerse yourself in the sophisticated world of soap design. While micas are a wonderful starting point for beginners, this session pushes the boundaries, teaching you how to color your soaps with atypical colorants (clays, dyes, oxides, pigments, botanicals, & spices).
What to Expect
1. The Chemistry of Color: Cold process soap is a high-alkaline environment and nature doesn’t always play nice! We will dive deep into the molecular shifts that occur when botanicals meet lye. You'll learn why that vibrant purple petal might turn green or brown and how to predict (and utilize) these chemical reactions to your advantage.
2. Beyond the Easy Wins We’re moving past the "shake and pour" simplicity of micas. We will explore:
Botanical Infusions: Learning how to extract color from roots, seeds, and leaves.
Clays & Earth Pigments: Achieving sophisticated, muted tones with mineral-rich powders.
Dyes & Lab Colors: Mastering high-intensity transparency and saturation.
3. Masterful Design Techniques Put your new knowledge to the test with hands-on swirling and layering techniques. Our instructors will guide you through the timing and precision required to keep your colors crisp and your designs intentional.
