We invite you to join us in the continued celebrated tradition of the lighting of the Deckard Family Christmas Tree at Mama & Papa’s Country Cottage.
In 1950 my late grandparents, Ruth & Paul Deckard planted a white pine tree that grew to become the welcoming of the holiday season to the Whitehall countryside valley.
As the tree grew taller & taller year by year, my Papa would climb the tree & throw down a rope where all of the family would be on the ground screwing in light bulbs & then tie a strand to the rope that he would then pull up strand by strand.
This tradition continued until he was no longer able to climb the tree in 1995 & in which then, the valley became a little darker without the tree’s beautiful glow during the holiday season.
In 2020, I am happy we were able to revive this family tradition where their magnificent pine could glow again & bring, what we found out to be so much holiday cheer and joy to our little community!
While I turn the lights on a little different than my Papa did in the only way I know how… over the top, with glorious music & a fireworks extravaganza & maybe even other extras… it’s time to light up the valley for the holiday season again!
