- **Event Description**: The Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble was formed in 1996 as a part of the Spartanburg Community Band organization. The band consists of a mix of professional and amateur players who are bound together by their love of big band music. The SJE presents 6-8 concerts a year at various venues in the Upstate, including the Chapman Center, Furman University, Wofford College, and our summer concert series at Converse University. Over the years, we have performed at Spartanburg's Jazz on the Square series, Fall For Greenville, Red, White, and Boom, and many other events. The band plays everything from classic big band tunes to modern compositions, many of which are written by our director, Dr. Tom Wright. The band also features two local vocalists, Darin Dotson and WSPA TV's Diane Lee.

This event is FREE to attend and will take place at Fretwell Spartanburg, outside on the lawn.

Fretwell is Spartanburg’s newest gathering spot, located just a few steps off the Mary Black Rail Trail. Whether you’re here to rest from the Trail, have a beer or coffee with friends, or listen to live music with your family, we have a spot for you!
