Sober Fest is a bold, joy-filled celebration of health, wellness, and conscious living. Taking place in Soweto over Freedom Day weekend, the festival invites families, friends, and communities to re-imagine what true freedom looks like and feels like in our bodies, our homes, and our society.
Rooted in the spirit of New Freedom, Sober Fest is a family-friendly, alcohol- and substance-free space designed for connection, laughter, healing, and play. The festival features a fully equipped, safe and secure children’s play area, allowing parents and caregivers to participate with ease while young ones explore and enjoy themselves.
The programme blends comedy, music, and movement, with live performances by well-known South African bands and DJs, alongside stand-up sets from announced comedians Khanyisa Bunu, and Brra Thabiso. Laughter and rhythm become tools for wellness, reflection, and collective release.
Beyond the stage, Sober Fest offers a vibrant craft and wellness market showcasing handcrafted goods, holistic health products, and conscious lifestyle brands. A curated food court, including halaal options, ensures nourishment for every palate.
Central to the festival is its commitment to community healing. Dedicated stalls from rehabilitation centres and support organisations provide information, resources, and guidance for individuals and families impacted by addiction, reinforcing the message that freedom is not only personal, but collective.
Sober Fest is more than a festival. It is a gathering of intention. A declaration that joy does not require intoxication, that wellness can be communal, and that freedom, when nurtured, can be felt deeply and lived daily.
