Every Picture Tells a Story; the Art and Illustrations of NC Wyeth

One of the most respected and celebrated artists of the Golden Age of American Illustration, Newell Convers Wyeth, NC as he is commonly known, created the modern image of the hero and captivated audiences young and old with his illustrations for Scribner’s Classics series which included Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stephenson, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper and Drums by James Boyd. A farm boy from Needham Massachusetts his artistic talents were quickly recognized leading him to study with the most accomplished illustrator of the time, Howard Pyle. Although he achieved financial and commercial success his entire life he remained frustrated in his desire to be seen as a fine art painter. Join us as we explore the life of NC Wyeth, his illustrations, murals and fine art. The Weymouth Center currently has three original paintings by Wyeth for Boyd’s "Drums" on display. The evening offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the artist who brought the classics to life.
