Controversial on release, the groundbreaking film is now widely regarded as one of the most influential films ever made. The film follows the discovery of a mysterious black monolith on the moon, an indicator of extraterrestrial life and interference. An ambitious American expedition is launched to examine a new monolith discovered on Jupiter. However, during the spacecraft's journey, the ship's computer, HAL 9000, seemingly develops a mind of its own.
