This hands-on workshop invites you to explore the art of transforming everyday materials into something extraordinary. Together, we'll craft, assemble, and install our birds in the garden, bringing new life to rubbish! As we create our Urban Flock, we'll be weaving stories of creativity, sustainability, and connection, culminating in a magical moment when we light up the installation with solar lights a the start of Urban Wild festival. No experience necessary - just bring your imagination and a spirit of collaboration! Drop in or out during the session, or look out for instructions on how to make your birds at home and bring them to install on Monday 26 May. Event Details: Workshop (Saturday 24 May 11am - 2pm): A four hour, hands-on session open to the public - come and make as many birds as you want to! Drop in and out through the session or stay for the whole time. All materials and equipment provided. Installation (26 May 11am - 1pm): The flock will be installed in the station garden during the day. Participants will be invited to be a part of this, if they wish to, and to add your own birds you make at home. Opening and Light-Up Event (26 May, 8 - 10pm): To celebrate the launch of the installation and the beginning of Urban Wild, we will invite the public to visit for an informal opening event, illuminating the work with solar fairy lights as the sun sets, with entertainment and light refreshments. About Us: Jez Franck is a multidisciplinary artist working in mixed media, installations and festival art. They have extensive experience in leading interactive workshops and creating site-specific public art in open spaces. Nicola Beck is an artist photographer and poet, with a focus on nature, social justice and exploring personal stories. Together, we bring a shared passion for sustainability, community-driven creativity, and environmental art. We work with adults, who we feel often are denied access to creative activities seen as being ‘for kids’, to encourage playful experimentation and a return to creativity. We will provide all necessary materials and equipment for the workshop and installation. Cost: The artists presenting this workshop make their living from their practice, so the workshop is priced on a pay-as-you-feel basis with nobody turned away for lack of funds, please do pay as much as you are able to, to support the artists and cover costs. This workshop is aimed at adults and young people, as the birds are a little fiddly to make and you will need to use scissors.
