South Portland's Central Fire Station and Police Station are aging buildings that do not meet today's public safety, accessibility, or operational standards. Renovations to solve pressing problems at these facilities would trigger tens of millions of dollars in upgrades to bring the old buildings up to Maine's current building and energy codes. Even after the costly renovations, many of the underlying problems would remain.

This is why the City of South Portland is proposing to replace these facilities with new buildings that will support public safety in our city for the next 50+ years.

The proposed new Central Fire Station on Broadway at Anthoine and new Police Station in Cash Corner would provide safe, reliable, and efficient facilities that:

• support modern policing and firefighting practices, evolving technology, and training
• ensure a healthy, safe working/living environment for our firefighters and police officers
• attract top-notch public safety professionals to work in our city, and to stay
• increase connection between our public safety teams and our community
• create functional, efficient, resilient facilities that will serve the community for decades to come!

Residents will vote on an $88.6 million bond for the two new public safety buildings in a referendum this fall.
