About our show:
Songwriter J. Micheal Laferty joins cellist and songwriter Jen Mulhern (Jenuine Cello) for an intimate evening of songs and stories. Laferty leads the night with his well-crafted originals, delivered in a relaxed Gulf Coast style shaped by decades of performing. His warm vocals, acoustic guitar, and natural storytelling set the tone, drawing listeners into the heart of each song. Mulhern adds expressive cello, harmony vocals, and a few of her own original pieces, bringing depth and texture while keeping the focus on the songwriting. Together they share a mix of originals and select covers across genres, creating a listening-room experience that’s personal, engaging, and rooted in the simple power of good songs well told.

"The Listening Sessions" is the RGV's only monthly music series of its kind. Surrounded by art and stillness, the performances transform the room into a shared listening sanctuary, offering music and art enthusiasts the opportunity to gather in a space intentionally curated for an unforgettable experience. 

Host and Cellist-in-residence Jen Mulhern (aka Jenuine Cello) is joined monthly by a fluid lineup of musicians from varied traditions, with an emphasis on versatility, collaboration and emotional connection. Won’t you join us in the listening room?
