Be moved, be challenged, and be inspired.
Hear Tracy Chapman's iconic songs performed by dynamic New England singers with a live band at a unique musical/spiritual experience on Friday, January 23 at Fellowship Hall in Kingston Congregational Church, Kingston RI.
The music of Grammy Award-winner Tracy Chapman is unforgettable: With songs like "Fast Car," "Give Me One Reason," and "Say Hallelujah," Chapman's tuneful catalog touches on faith, social justice, and all matters of the heart. Musicians love to cover her songs.
The Tracy Chapman Chapel Vol. 2 is a highly anticipated follow-up to last April's sold-out show. Musicians and audience celebrated Chapman's songbook and pondered some thoughtful spiritual questions, while raising thousands of dollars for The Welcome House of South County. This time, all ticket sale proceeds benefit The Tomaquag Musuem, Rhode Island's only Indigenous museum.
Joining Providence blues/gospel/soul singer Kim Trusty and her band are special guest performers including Providence-based pop and rock singer Victoria Hazard, cabaret singer Eden Casteel, South Kingstown performer Alexcia Christy, and New Bedford-based musicians MWALIM Daphunkee Professor and The ZYG808, who are members of afro-funk quartet The GroovaLottos. Hazard, Christy, MWALIM and The ZYG808 are all Native American musicians who celebrate their heritage in their music and performing.
No, Tracy Chapman will not be there. She has not toured in 17 years. Please do not buy tickets thinking you will see Tracy Chapman performing live. That will not happen. We are clear on this. We think you'll still have a great time.
Rev. Jan Gregory-Charpentier of KCC will provide some spiritual guidance throughout the evening, deepening the experience as well as the appreciation of Chapman's work. But you don't have to be a churchgoer to have a wonderful experience at this event! All are welcome, and all will feel included.
If you've been to Kingston Congregational Church's Fellowship Hall for concerts, you know that music sounds great in here!
KCC is fully accessible for all patrons, with easy parking around the building. Drinks and snacks are available for purchase in the Fellowship Hall. Feel free to bring along a canned good to donate, too, as KCC is part of the 1-of-52 Anti-Hunger Initiative.
At this show the singers are backed by Joe Potenza, bass; George Dussault, guitar; Eric Hastings, drums; and Eden Casteel, keyboards.
DOORS open 6:30pm. Live pre-show music by MWALIM Daphunkee Professor and The ZYG808. Show at 7pm. No intermission.
There are NO REFUNDS after purchase. Your ticket sales benefit The Tomaquag Museum. Thank you for your understanding and thank you for your support.
