Ernest has been playing drums nearly since the band started in 1988. He laughs now because when friends Eric “Boofish” Barclay de Tolly and Carey Bowman — the first and only lead singer — started the Ravers, Ernest wondered who would come out to hear a bunch of white kids play reggae.“I thought it was a dumb idea,” Ernest recalled. “I couldn’t believe it. Then I saw them and it was great. And I sat in a few times and eventually I wormed my way into the drummer’s seat. I’ve been there ever since.”Most band members are now over 40. And the Ravers have a large alumni association, with members starting careers and families. The current lineup features Bowman and Ernest, as well as guitarist Adam Aleicho, keyboardist Steve Cerilli, bassist Ray Gennari and a revolving of horn players including Dan Moretti, Curt Ramm, Gerard Ramm, Mark Earley and Doug Woolverton.The band also plays a good number of sailing parties and it’s gotten them something of an international fan base.
