- **Event Description**: Join us as former MMM curator Kenneth Pott reflects on the discovery and documentation of one of the Michigan Maritime Museum’s oldest artifacts, a 16 foot long dugout canoe. After the presentation, we will be officially premiering the canoe’s new display inside the Heritage Center, featuring a custom, professional grade artifact case and new interpretative panels to share the history of this rare indigenous-built vessel. 

Tickets are free for Museum members and $10 for non-members. A virtual lecture pass is also available. Doors open at 6 PM. You can purchase tickets for this event online, over the phone, or in-person.

About Our Presenter: 
Kenneth (Ken) Pott holds BA and MA degrees from Western Michigan University in Anthropology and a specialization in the study of Great Lakes cultural history.  During his 40-year professional career, Ken has worked as Curator of the Michigan Maritime Museum, Executive Director of The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center at St. Joseph, Director of the Tri-Cities Historical Museum at Grand Haven, as Field Historian with the Michigan Historical Museum and Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and, most recently, as Manager of the Meijer Heritage Center in Grand Rapids.  

A strong believer in extended professional service, Ken has served on working committees of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Society of Professional Archaeologists, the Council of American Maritime Museums, as a Board Member of the Michigan Museums Association, and as Trustee and President of the Historical Society of Michigan, our state's oldest cultural organization.  

Now retired and residing in Kalamazoo, Ken currently serves on the Board of the Friends of the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, and the Kalamazoo Citizens Climate Lobby.
