Her short story Malena appears in A Darker Shade of Noir: New Stories of Body Horror by Women Writers, and she received her MFA from NYU, where Joyce Carol Oates served as her thesis advisor. Before turning to writing fiction, Joanna Margaret was a historian, with a PhD from the University of St. Andrews, whose previous writing and scholarly work focused on Florentine aristocrats in sixteenth-century France.About Joy Deva BaglioJoy Deva Baglio a speculative-literary fiction writer and the founder of Pioneer Valley Writers’ Workshop, a literary arts organization based in Northampton MA and virtually. Her short stories are widely published in journals such as One Story, Ploughshares, The Missouri Review, The Iowa Review, American Short Fiction, and elsewhere. She's received fellowships and residencies from Yaddo, Ragdale, The Kerouac Project, Vermont Studio Center, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and Sewanee Writers’ Conference, among others, and grants in support of her work from The Elizabeth George Foundation and The Speculative Literature Foundation. Joy holds an MFA from The New School and lived in NYC for years. She know lives in Northampton MA, where she can be found playing the bagpipes, running, and scheming up adventures.
