- **Event Description**: Your presence is requested at the annual New Year's Eve Grand Ball! We are once again turning the clocks back this new year, instead of forward, and transporting guests to a social dance of the Civil War era. This truly elegant evening is held at the historic 1879 South Charleston Town Hall & Opera House, and is hosted by the 2nd Cavalry Brigade Band. Essential to the look of the evening are the historically based costumes that participants are encouraged to wear, but are not required. Modern ladies' formalwear and gentlemen's suits are welcome at our event. Changing rooms for those traveling are available; soldiers are asked not to wear hobnail boots. Guests will participate in dances of the mid-Victorian period, instructed and led by dance mistress Katie Humphreys. No previous dance experience is necessary! A combination of brass, percussion and string music will be provided by the 2nd Brigade Cavalry Band, of Columbus, Ohio. A full buffet of heavy appetizers and delicious desserts will be available to keep hungry dancers on their feet, and a toast will help ring in the New Year at midnight. Photographic portraits of guests will be available for sale by Emily Ross, of Emily's Photography. We will hold a social hour from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Opera House. We welcome you to join us for the opportunity to socialize before the ball. Please join us for an unforgettable night with your loved ones to support history. Families are welcome, and well-behaved children under age 10 are admission-free. We are looking forward to another great year dancing the night away! (Onstreet parking only is available.
