Explore how technology, innovation and culture are transforming Queensland’s roads, cars and the future of driving.

About this Event

Join a panel of industry, academic and government voices - including Roland Dane (ex-Triple Eight Race Engineering), Greg McGarvie (Ace Electric Vehicles), and Associate Professor Jiwon Kim (University of Queensland) - as they discuss how technology, infrastructure, and culture are reshaping how Queenslanders drive.

From electric vehicles and automation to infrastructure, policy and community attitudes, this conversation explores how innovation is transforming our roads, our cars and our connection to them.

Hosted at State Library of Queensland as part of the Driven exhibition program.


About the Speakers

Roland Dane
Founder and formerly Team Principal of Triple Eight Race Engineering, Roland Dane is one of Australia’s most respected motorsport figures. With decades of experience leading innovation in racing and vehicle performance, he brings a unique industry lens to Queensland’s motoring future.

Greg McGarvie
Head of Ace Electric Vehicles, a Queensland-owned company driving the transition to affordable, sustainable electric transport. Greg is a passionate advocate for local manufacturing, innovation, and practical EV adoption.

Associate Professor Jiwon Kim
Jiwon Kim is an Associate Professor and the Director of Higher Degree by Research in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland. She is a transportation researcher whose work explores how AI and data can transform the way we move. Her research focuses on applying AI and advanced analytics to improve prediction, automation, and insight generation within transportation networks, helping create safer, more efficient, and sustainable mobility systems.
