'GIFT' features a live soundtrack performed by Ishibashi, accompanying a silent film directed by Hamaguchi. Ishibashi will perform live at the GOMA cinema in two performances on 24 & 26 Apr 2025.

Following their collaboration on 'Drive My Car' 2021, 'GIFT' originated when Ishibashi asked Hamaguchi to create visuals to accompany her live performance. Hamaguchi decided to create a film with dialogue as a starting point, then turn it into a silent film for Ishibashi’s live performance. Consequently, the project yielded two distinct works: the live score film performance 'GIFT' and the feature film 'Evil Does Not Exist' 2023.

GIFT offers a constantly-evolving cinematic experience, with Ishibashi’s improvised live performance intervening in Hamaguchi’s visuals, seeking to re-imagine the relationships between sound, image, and narrative.
