Εξερευνώντας τα μονοπάτια της Μαλάξας
Σε απόσταση 5 χιλιομέτρων από το κέντρο των Χανίων, ακριβώς πάνω από το χωριό Νεροκούρου, υψώνεται το πρώτο βουνό που ανήκει στους πρόποδες των Λευκών Ορέων. Το βουνό ονομάζεται Βερέκυνθος, αλλά μεταξύ των δρομέων είναι γνωστό απλώς ως Μαλάξα (από το όνομα του χωριού που βρίσκεται στην κορυφή του). Το σημαντικότερο είναι ότι ολόκληρο το βουνό καλύπτεται από έναν λαβύρινθο μονοπατιών – ιδανικό για τρέξιμο. Εδώ διεξάγεται ο αγώνας Chania Trail Event.
Τα μονοπάτια της Μαλάξας είναι στενά και γενικά μαλακά, αν και υπάρχουν και αρκετές πέτρες. Η διαδρομή είναι γεμάτη κατηφόρες και ανηφόρες, σχετικά σύντομες αλλά μερικές φορές πολύ απότομες, καθώς οι υψομετρικές διαφορές φτάνουν τα 500 μ. Η θέα κατά μήκος της διαδρομής είναι επίσης εντυπωσιακή: το πανόραμα των Χανίων, οι χερσόνησοι Ροδωπού και Ακρωτηρίου, και πιο κοντά ο κόλπος της Σούδας.

Λόγω της τοποθεσίας του, στα όρια της πόλης, και των σχετικά εύκολων διαδρομών, το Chania Trail Event μπορεί να θεωρηθεί μια εξαιρετική εισαγωγή στο πραγματικό ορεινό τρέξιμο, στο πλαίσιο του Sfakia Sky Marathon.

Exploring Trails in Malaxa
5 kilometers from the center of Chania, just above the village of Nerokourou, rises the first mountain belonging to the Lefka Ori foothills. The mountain is called Verekynthos, but among runners it is known simply as Malaxa (after the name of the village located on the top). The most important thing is that the entire mountain is covered with a maze of paths – perfect for running. This is where the Chania Trail Event competition takes place.
Malaxa’s paths are narrow and generally soft, although there are plenty of rocks as well. The route is full of descents and ascents, rather short but sometimes very steep because the level differences on the route reach 500 m. The views along the route are also amazing: the panorama of Chania, the Rodopos and Akrotiri peninsulas, and the closest one is the Souda Bay.
Due to its location on the outskirts of the city and relatively easy routes, the Chania Trail Event can be treated as an excellent introduction to true mountain running during the Sfakia Sky Marathon.
