About the event

The King of Denmark’s Health: Renaissance Music from Denmark-Norway
El Dorado Ensemble performs music from Christian IV’s court by Dowland and contemporaries.

About this Event

El Dorado Ensemble (Carol Lewis, Karen Burciaga, Mai-Lan Broekman, James Peretta and Alice Mroszczyk, viols; Olav Chris Henriksen, lute and orpharion) perform a Mother’s Day concert of music from the court of Christian IV, with works by Dowland, Borchgrevinck, Brade, Schop, Ørn, and Thomas Simpson.

About Duo Maresienne

From the intricate Italian and English fantasies of the 15th and 16th centuries to the most spectacular French and German showpieces of the 18th century, Duo Maresienne treats its audiences to a variety of music for some fascinating and elegant instruments - the lute, theorbo, orpharion, viola da gamba, citterns, and early guitars. Named for the great French Baroque composer and gambist Marin Marais, Duo Maresienne explores the musical spirit of Renaissance and Baroque Europe. Carol Lewis and Olav Chris Henriksen appear individually and together and performing with internationally acclaimed ensembles including Boston Camerata and Hespèrion. Lewis and Henriksen have recorded on Astrée, EMI, Harmonia Mundi, Nonesuch, Erato, Centaur, Decca, Telarc and Koch International. New England composer Daniel Pinkham wrote his “Sagas” (1998) for Duo Maresienne.

All concerts take place at the Somerville Museum, One Westwood Road, Somerville, and begin at 3:00 pm. For further information, call (617) 666-9810 or go to www.somervillemuseum.org. Admission is $30 for the general public, $25 for students and seniors, $20 for Museum members.
