As a principal of the firm, he provides critical guidance as a project manager, performs intensive archival and historical research, ensures thorough documentation of existing conditions, develops appropriate restoration/rehabilitation programs and feasibility studies for historic properties, and oversees the production of design and construction documents. An avid collector of rare architecture books, Mr. Middleton draws on his knowledge of period architectural styles in his research of historic properties.The Old Dutch Parsonage was home to ministers of the Dutch Reformed Churches of the Raritan River Valley in New Jersey including the founder and first president of Queen’s College, today Rutgers, the State University. Two men from the Old Dutch Parsonage, Frederick Frelinghuysen and Rev. Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh, were delegates from Somerset County to the Provincial Congress of New Jersey 250 years ago, declaring New Jersey independent of Great Britain and adopting New Jersey’s first Constitution on July 2, 1776.
