Released within weeks of each other in May of 1977, we bring together the greatest good ol’ boy car chase comedy of all time, and the greatest possessed desert devil car film of all time, THE CAR, on the giant Somerville screen, along with vintage 35mm trailers, snack bar ads, an intermission reel, and live introduction by Virgil and Mark from Pennsylvania’s Mahoning Drive-In Theater, the world’s only all-retro, all-35mm Drive-In!

First up is the iconic SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, with a hotshot show-off in a black Trans-Am with a runaway bride at his side, running blocker for an 18-wheeler full of bootleg Coors, racing from Texarkana to Atlanta on a bet with a foul-mouthed Sheriff hot on their heels! With Burt Reynolds as The Bandit, Sally Field as Frog, Jerry Reed as the Snowman and Jackie Gleason as Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

We follow that with THE CAR, featuring James Brolin as the sheriff of a small desert town being terrorized by a sinisterly souped-up hot rod from Hell!  Is it a phantom, a demon, or the devil himself at the wheel? There’s nowhere to turn, nowhere to hide, no way to stop…THE CAR! With John Marley (THE GODFATHER), R.G. Armstrong (DICK TRACY), and Kim Richards (ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13)!

Join us in reliving the glory days of the Drive-In, when the films were wild, the popcorn was hot, and double features were the order of the night! 

A special prize will be awarded to the best Burt Reynolds laugh, so start practicing!
