- **Event Description**: With over 1 000 camellias, Vergelegen is an International Camellia Garden of Excellence, the only one in Africa. Alistair, a brilliant and well-informed local guide who helped propagate some of the collection, brings them into peak bloom during Cape Town’s winter, making this the highlight of the tour.

A full-time guide and storyteller, he shares both his love of plants and the estate’s history, founded in 1700, including tales of shipwreck treasure, British royal visits, and Nelson Mandela’s VIP dinner.

Cost: R350 for early birds | R450 standard fee

When you arrive at Vergelegen at the security boom, you’ll be asked to pay the entry fee R20 (R10 for pensioners and students); please don’t include this in the payment to me in advance.
