Few trails in Washington command the kind of reverence that the Kendall Katwalk does. Carved into the granite spine of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, this section of the Pacific Crest Trail is both legendary and exhilarating—a narrow ledge blasted from solid rock, where hikers step literally through the clouds.

The Katwalk’s story began in the 1970s, when PCT crews used dynamite and determination to cut a safe route across sheer cliffs above Snoqualmie Pass. What they left behind is a marvel of human grit and natural beauty—one of those trails that makes you laugh in disbelief at your own courage.

Our route stretches 12 miles round-trip with about 2,700 feet of gain, climbing gradually through forest and huckleberry meadows before the world suddenly falls away at your feet. From the Katwalk itself, Mount Rainier looms to the south, Glacier Peak shimmers to the north, and the valleys below look impossibly far away.

By late July, the high country is in full bloom. The air is thin and sweet with alpine flowers, and marmots sun themselves on the rocks like furry philosophers. You can feel the joy of summer here—the wild freedom that only big mountains can give.

For Tenderfoot hikers, this is the trail that reminds us why we chase horizons. It’s the thrill of the edge, the laughter echoing across switchbacks, the quiet pride of standing where few have dared.

We’ll meet at Snoqualmie Pass PCT Trailhead at 9:15 a.m. sharp. Bring poles, plenty of snacks, and your steady footing—this is mountain hiking at its most spectacular, and the view will take your breath in the best possible way.

Kendall Katwalk — Washington Trails Association

We'll meet in the far north end of the north parking lot at the Green Lake Park and Ride, and directly under the I-5 freeway at 8 am. Since we are heading east, we can also stop off at the Eastgate Outback Steakhouse at 8:30 am to either pick up additional riders or further coordinate rideshares. Rideshare for the day is $16 per person from the Green Lake Park n Ride and $12 per person from the Eastgate Outback Steakhouse and is paid to the driver of the vehicle.

Yes, there are two separate fees regarding this event. The event fee, and then a rideshare if you are riding as a passenger with a driver.

Sorry, no doggies are allowed at any Tenderfoot Adventures events as per our insurance policy. We all love our fur babies, and I am sure that yours is amazing as well, but alas, there are no doggies allowed at any of our events.
