- **Event Description**: A reading and conversation with Thea MonyeéAbout this EventTo Be (Black), Wild & Loved by Thea Monyeé examines the silent choices and sacrifices we face when we question what it takes to choose love over and over and over again. On this occasion, Thea will be joined by grief-steward Akilah S. Richards, as they dive into the tender layers of grief and courage required when we are brave enough to say yes to black, wild love.Join us at The Rest Spot for an evening of rich conversation, light refreshments, merch, and of course, love!About the Author:Thea Monyeé is an accomplished performance poet and the author of a collection of unconventional memoirs, and is currently signed with literary agency Dystel, Goderich & Bourett.About the collection:Murmurs of a Madwoman is the first in a series of unconventional memoirs consisting of prose and poetry. Written with the intention of exploring the inner world of a woman navigating emotional deaths and rebirths, it is the predecessor to the recently completed, To Be Black Wild And Loved. To Be Black, Wild, and Loved explores the question of whether these three identifiers can all apply to the same body, within the context of our current society. Also constructed with prose and poetry, this work takes liberties with language and format, fortifying its connection to Blood & Bajareque.Between the emotional autopsy of Murmurs of a Madwoman, and the reflective anthropological voice of To Be Black Wild & Loved, rests Blood & Bajareque: the ancestral cartilage that makes these three works more of a lineage than a series. Blood & Bajareque is an invitation to apply fresh eyes to overlooked ancestral inheritance and spiritual technology baked into the stories of our elders, and the rituals preserved in their seemingly mundane gestures and choices. It takes literary liberties to create an opportunity for readers to harvest lost ancestral data, and imagine how it can be applied through them today. For more on Thea’s offerings visit www.theamonyee.com
