Main Street West Becomes a living Art Gallery: The Merrickville Art Walk

There’s a particular kind of magic that happens on Main Street West on the last Thursday of the month, May through September. 
Easels appears along the Art Alley. A blacksmith’s forge glows outside a favourite local art studio. Watercolours dry in the afternoon sun while their painters chat with neighbours about the very cloud formations that inspired them. 
This is the Merrickville Art Walk and it just wrapped its second season of bringing our village’s artists out from behind gallery walls and into the heart of the community.
I founded the Art Walk because I believe art, talented artists and the local community belonging together, creating an amazing environment where people can watch art in motion, ask questions, and fall in love with a piece as it’s being made. Each month, painters, sculptors, and fine artisans set up along Main Street West from 11am to 4:30pm, turning an ordinary Thursday into something a little extraordinary.
This season has featured an incredible range of talent: oil abstracts, landscapes and florals, wood and hand-forged sculptures, fibre artistry, and everything in between, set against the backdrop of local businesses who generously open their doors and sidewalks to make it all possible. It’s been a joy to watch visitors linger longer than they planned, strike up conversations with artists, and leave with both a new piece for their walls and a new appreciation for what our community can create.
The good news: the season isn’t over yet. We have 2 more Art Walks this year

Whether you’ve been to every Art Walk this year or haven’t made it out yet, there’s still time to wander the street, meet the new artists, and see Merrickville at its most creative.
