- **Event Description**: Let's suit up and get in the water to track the fish population of the Woonasquatucket River, a critical urban wildlife corridor!About this EventLet's suit up and get in the water to track the fish population of the Woonasquatucket River, a critical urban wildlife corridor!Join us to assist with hands-on environmental data collection on the diversity of aquatic life in the Woonasquatucket River.We use electrofishing to capture, measure and identify the fish living in the upper and lower parts of the river. The upper river has cleaner water than the lower river because of the rural nature of the watershed there. Monitoring fish in both parts of the river helps us compare the impact of water quality on different fish in cleaner water versus more polluted water. We learn to restore and care for our river through the fish that live there!Learn the fish collection technique of electrofishing to help us catch, identify, measure, and lastly release fish to provide an up-to-date survey for RIDEM. Get to know the river and pick up some fish identification tips from our resident expert.Urban rivers are critical wildlife corridors worth restoring and protecting.We provide all equipment and training!You provide your fish savvy and enthusiasm!Please arrive on time so you can receive important instructions and information! This event is family-friendly, waders and boots provided, BYO water boots if you have them.
