This is a walk of around 12 miles, commencing from Doddington, a village located within the Syndale valley, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
We have enjoyed a few group walks commencing previously from Doddington, but this is a new route, exploring the landscape to the south. Although no doubt, the regulars amongst the group, will recognise a few paths that we have trod before.
We start off heading in a westerly direction to West End and Torry Hill, before turning south towards Wichling. However, this route doesn't visit the haunted church, but continues to descend through West Street, before crossing the A20 to reach Lenham.
The return leg crosses the Pilgrims Way and upward towards Warren Street and Bunkers Hill, before passing through Oakenpole Wood. A short stretch of road, takes us beside Lady Margaret Manor, then on through more wooded areas, notably King's Acre & Jackson's Wood, before the return to Doddington.
Our usual 20-minute or so picnic lunchbreak, will most likely take place on our arrival at Lenham. The Red Lion or the Dog & Bear, located in the Square are useful for a halfway tipple. Whilst the Chequers Inn, on our arrival back at Doddington is handy for those that wish some refreshment post walk.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
