- **Event Name**: Yoga Humanities: An Introduction to the Mythology, History, and Philosophy of Yoga
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 11 Sep, 2026 at 06:00 pm (-05:00)
- **Event Description**: We’re all telling ourselves stories. Good, bad, ugly, the whole gamut. A key component of understanding the history, philosophy, and mythology of yoga is becoming aware of our own history and the thoughts, feelings, emotions, and beliefs that shape our being. And yet, when we open ourselves to the wonderful richness of our yogic roots, we can truly come to see and feel and experience the full spectrum of peace, love, and light we possess within.

In tour time together, we will examine the applications of yogic conceptions of creation and birth, sustenance and life, and destruction and death. We'll discuss the poses of the yogi, the gods, the sages, and of animals and earth that lie at the heart of so many of our physical asana practices. We'll dive into the historical periods and explore the contours of the yogic tradition, from the Vedic period to modern Yoga. As part of this look into the past, we'll explore the defining sacred texts that have inspired yogis for hundreds of thousands of years: The Vedas, The Bhagavad Gita, The Upanishads, Patanjali's Sutras, and others. Additionally, as a part of our time together, we'll discuss the 8 Limbs of Yoga in great detail and explore practices and pathways to living and being in alignment with ourselves and the world around us.

We’ll explore the origins of the yoga practice, its guiding principles and philosophy, and how its mythology and history is relevant for people today. We’ll delve into our own creation myths, explore the inner resources that guide our mission and purpose, and practice helping people discover the stories of the their lives and the voice and vision that shapes them.

Our time together will include a combination of discussion, creative reflection, and meditative practices rooted in yogic mythology and philosophy so that you can practice feeling what you're hoping to find. 3 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education credit is available upon completion of the course.
