Tien jaar na haar laatste kwartetrelease keert altsaxofoniste Marjan Van Rompay terug met een nieuw album: ‘On Track’. Samen met bassist Janos Bruneel, tevens haar levenspartner, componeerde ze een persoonlijke en melodische plaat die zowel verwijst naar haar muzikale parcours als naar haar tweede grote passie: langeafstandslopen. “Lopen helpt me de dingen te ordenen, ruimte te maken, evenwicht te vinden. Muziek is daar het verlengde van,” zegt Van Rompay. Haar altsaxofoon klinkt opvallend zangerig en persoonlijk, en haar composities doen soms denken aan wat instrumentale singer-songwriter muziek zou kunnen zijn. Live functioneert haar kwartet als een echte jazzband, met improvisatie, lyrische input van de ritmesectie en een warme, soulvolle sound die haar melodieën ondersteunt.
