Estupendo! Multi-instrumentalist Sergio Mendoza (ook bij Calexico) werd geboren in het Mexicaanse Nogales, emigreerde op jonge leeftijd naar Tucson in de Verenigde Staten en vormde in 2009 het orkest dat zijn naam draagt. Zijn muziek is dan ook inherent aan de Sonarawoestijn op de Amerikaanse-Mexicaanse grens. Orkesta Mendoza vereerde DC de voorbije jaren meermaals met welgesmaakte passages die barstten van mambo, cumbia, ranchero, merengue en rumba, – bij voorkeur te degusteren bij een copa de mezcal. Grensmuziek, maar dan zonder grenzen. Vamos A Guarachar!



Twanguero brings both sides of his musical world to Sint Niklaas: an intimate solo set on Spanish guitar, followed by a full-band performance with The Tucsonians.

Diego García, aka Twanguero, mixt Spaanse roots met rock-’n-roll, Latin vibes en Americana. Flamenco op elektrische gitaar? Hij doet het gewoon. Op zijn Gretsch vermengt hij Mexicana, rockabilly en rauwe blues tot een broeierige, eigenzinnige sound. In De Casino toont hij twee kanten van zijn muzikale wereld. Eerst solo op Spaanse gitaar: intiem en gelaagd, met focus op nuance en expressie. Daarna met The Tucsonians: voller en elektrisch, waar Spaanse roots, Latijns-Amerikaanse ritmes en Amerikaanse twang samenvloeien tot een groovende set die schakelt van rockabilly naar cumbia, met invloeden van surf, mambo en bolero. Twee sets, één trip tussen Spanje, Latijns-Amerika en het Amerikaanse Westen.
