Pelepah Falls, made up of multiple series of cascades and waterfalls, is a less commercialized waterfall located just beside the popular Kota Tinggi Waterfalls, 56km north of Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The hike is fairly pleasant with the trail following the path of the stream. Most of the time we will be either crossing or trekking along small streams where water level can reach up to waist level. The main challenge of the trek is the slippery rocks and a few steep sections where participants will need to scramble up a slab of rock wall with the help from fixed ropes. Upon reaching the main cascade, we will rest for lunch and have a dip in one of the clear and cooling pool.
After the trek, we will proceed to Kota Tinggi town for dinner followed by a river cruise along the Kota Tinggi River to catch the sight of countless fireflies lighting up the mangrove forest along the river bank.
This trip may be postponed on a heavy rain day as the river stream may swell up unexpectedly with fast current flow and potential of flash flood after a heavy rainfall.
