About the Webinar

Thailand’s ongoing economic slowdown has left it among the weakest performers in the ASEAN-5 over the past few years, raising significant concerns about its economic future. This webinar aims to identify the structural constraints underpinning Thailand’s persistent economic slowdown, with particular attention to the manufacturing sector’s declining contribution to GDP, stagnating productivity, and subdued investment. It will also assess whether the conditions for a durable recovery are in place and consider the policy directions the new government should pursue to restore sustainable, resilient, and long-term economic growth.

About the Speaker

Juthathip Jongwanich is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Economics at Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand (awaiting royal approval for the rank of professor) and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Thailand and the World Economy (TWE). She received the best paper award in international economics and international macroeconomics from the National Research Council of Thailand in 2009, 2019, and 2022, and from Thammasat University in 2018. Additionally, she was recognised in 2021 for the highest number of publications in the ISI and Scopus databases (Social Science). Her research interests encompass international economics, capital mobility, multinational enterprises, international macroeconomics, and international production networks. Jongwanich also consults for various international organisations and has published in leading peer-reviewed journals. Currently, she is researching the impacts of US-China de-risking on Southeast Asia and Thailand, Thailand’s export competitiveness, and the intersection of Thailand’s digital technology and labour markets.
