The Singapore Eco Film Festival (#SGEFF) is an inspirational event bringing together all the eco organisations, storytellers and artists in Singapore, to CELEBRATE their efforts towards a sustainable future and ACCELERATE their impact. The festival hopes to foster more collaboration, raise awareness & ignite a public passion towards protecting our environment in Singapore & Beyond!
As part of SGEFF 2018, we are continuing our partnership with EARTHFEST to host a second screening of Landfill Harmonic, which follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of what most people would regard as garbage. When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts. However, when a natural disaster strikes their community, Favio must find a way to keep the orchestra intact and provide a source of hope for their town. The film is a testimony to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit.
We chose Landfill Harmonic as our closing film at SGEFF 2017 because we wanted to end our festival on a positive and uplifting note. In the same way, we would like to kick off 2018 with this heartwarming film about a topic that is a major issue for land-scarce countries, like Singapore, while showcasing how waste materials can be valuable resources. Please join us at Earthfest and meet others who are changing the way they live!
