Thailand’s proposed land bridge mega-project revives the centuries-old vision of the Kra Canal, a 17th-century concept for linking the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand that has long been mired in economic, political, and environmental debate. About the Speaker

Professor Ruth Banomyong is a former Dean of the Faculty of Commerce & Accountancy (Thammasat Business School), Thammasat University, Thailand. He received his PhD in 2001 in International Logistics within the Logistics & Operations Management Section (LOMS) at Cardiff Business School (UK). In 2024, he was appointed a board member of the Port Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Eastern Economic Corridor Development Zone. Professor Ruth was most recently appointed as the expert academic member in the national review committee studying approaches for advancing Thailand’s land bridge project. His main research interests are in multimodal transport, international logistics, trade facilitation, logistics development policy, supply chain performance, and humanitarian supply chains. He has published over 100 papers and reports in scientific journals and has co-authored more than 10 books.
