He has also created and regularly delivers foundational fire safety courses for non-fire engineers, helping to build broader competence across the built environment profession. Dr. Santamaria is President of the UK Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and sits on British Standards Institution committees FSH/14 and FSH/24, which oversee guidance-based and performance-based approaches to fire engineering. He is a Co-Founder of OpenFire Software, an open initiative aimed at providing transparent, traceable calculation foundations for the fire engineering profession.
