It marks the first oil-on-canvas exhibition hosted by Leica in Southeast Asia.The exhibition’s title, “The Decisive Moment”, is the precise instant in which composition, emotion and meaning come into alignment. This ethos finds a natural parallel in Ma’s practice. Using a Leica Q camera, he observes and photographs horses in their natural environment, studying their form, structure and movement. These captured moments become the foundation of his paintings. On canvas, he moves beyond form, expressing the threshold of motion, the breath before the gallop, the tension before release. Here, photography, painting and design converge, united by a shared pursuit of timing, instinct and expression.A highlight of the exhibition is "Registered Kiss" (150 cm × 200 cm, painted in 2012), Ma’s homage to Alfred Eisenstaedt’s iconic photograph "V-J Day in Times Square," which Alfred Eisenstaedt, originally captured on a Leica IIIa camera in 1945. The image, symbolising the end of World War II, remains one of the most recognisable photographs of the 20th century, a spontaneous expression of collective relief and joy.
