His practice spans woodcut printing and carving, street murals, visual and performance art, and collaborative public projects, shaped by his experiences living and travelling across Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Japan, India, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Deeply rooted in community engagement and social justice, Djuwadi’s work explores ecological stewardship, indigenous and rural communities, democracy, political participation, and personal and collective memory. Rather than working primarily in a studio, Djuwadi creates through collaborative workshops and public activities, using art to foster empathy, relationships, and social exchange. Through his work as an independent artist and as a member of the Yogyakarta-based art collective Taring Padi, Djuwadi’s practice reflects the contemporary Indonesian art tradition of responding to political and social change through collective action and artmaking.
