Many of us in Singapore grow up between cultures: hearing and speaking more than one language, learning more than one way of seeing the world. This casual Sunday afternoon book-talk features Singaporean author Zhang Ruihe, who will be reading from her newly re-released chapbook Small Droll Things. Come chat with her as she talks about how her multicultural, uniquely Singaporean childhood continues to shape the way she thinks and
writes today.

About the Speaker
Zhang Ruihe is a writer, editor, and educator whose poetry, creative nonfiction, and short fiction explore the borderlands between memory and history, body and spirit, home and exile. Her work received the Golden Point Award for English Poetry in 2013 and was nominated in 2023 for a Pushcart Prize. She holds an MFA in Writing (Nonfiction) from the University of Pittsburgh.

Moving through crystalline poems towards a haunting prose coda, this suite of thirteen lyric pieces offers a rare and quietly unsettling meditation on growing up in Singapore.
