When most people think of bees in their backyards, they think of honeybees, bumblebees, and maybe yellow jacket wasps. The reality is that our backyards and open spaces can host dozens or even hundreds of different bee species of bees if the area is managed properly. This program will highlight some of the most commonly seen groups of bees in our area, and include information about their natural history, ecology, and conservation. You will learn about the diverse and unique needs of your backyard bees that are often overlooked when planning your landscape.

This is part 1 of a two part event. In July (Date TBD) SPP will be offering a "Natural Walk with Kyle" to learn to use a naturalist app to identify native bees.  Both events are standalone, so participants can attend both or one as their schedule allows. 

Presenter: Kyle Testerman is a Wildlife Biologist with Connecticut DEEP and a lifelong naturalist. Although native bees are not the focus of his professional work, they have become one of his favorite groups to observe and study. He enjoys seeking out and identifying the incredible diversity of bees that are often overlooked despite being all around us
