Explore the Moon, planets and night sky through telescopes.About this EventThis night the moon is 9 days into its cycle, also known as the waxing gibbous phase. While the moon will be fairly bright and wash out fainter deep sky objects, we will be able to observe the lunar surface in great detail. Saturn and Neptune rise higher later into the night, providing an opportunity to view them as well.This event will continue as scheduled regardless of cloud cover, but it will be canceled in case of rain. Curfew at Blackstar Canyon is 10pm.Please dress for weather. Blackstar Canyon can be colder than anywhere else.Bring water and snacks, if needed.Arrive on time. Car headlights can be blinding to those whose eyes have already adjusted to the dark, and it takes 30 minutes to fully regain your night vision.Bring a red light. We will be doing our observing in the dark, and red lights help to preserve your night vision. Regular flashlights or phone lights will blind others around you.Prepare your phone. You can make your phone star party friendly by going into your settings and turning on a red light filter and lowering the brightness. Please also disable the flash on your camera.
