- **Event Description**: South Coast Orchid Society of Long Beach will host a program by Donna Ballard on “Aussie Dendrobiums:  Den. tetragonum” at Whaley Park Community Center, 5620 E. Atherton St. in Long Beach at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 22, 2026.  “Aussie Dendrobiums”, a group of compact hybrids based on Dendrobium species native to Australia, became popular in the 1980’s in their own country, and in the US around 2000.  They are well adapted to the Long Beach climate, but they can be quirky in growing and blooming.  With her background in horticulture as well as the American Orchid Society judging program, and with many awards to her credit, Donna has been investigating!  In this installment, she digs into the natural history and cultural requirements of one of the foundational species, Den. tetragonum, which comes in many forms and colors, and which figures in the background of well over 2,000 hybrids.  The more we know about the species, the better success we can expect with the hybrids!  Astounding orchids grown by our members will be on display.  As always, the program is free and open to the public.
