The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Fry Boulevard McDonald's with a short presentation and refreshments, followed by a ceremonial rope drop at one of the drive-thru lanes. The first 50 cars through the drive-thru will receive commemorative 50th anniversary keychain.

At around 2:30, the public is also invited to join us at the Henry F. Hauser Museum to view the original drive-thru window, watch a 50th anniversary video detailing its history, and enjoy other McDonald's-themed activities. The first 50 museum patrons will also receive a commemorative 50th anniversary keychain. The museum is located inside the Ethel H. Berger Center at 2950 E. Tacoma Street.

About the drive-thru:
Although McDonald's originally planned to open its first drive-thru window in Oklahoma City, then-owner of the Sierra Vista McDonald's Dave Rich beat them to the punch by opening up a wall and adding a small alcove with a drive-thru window. This innovative move was inspired by a general order that prohibited soldiers from entering businesses while wearing their fatigues, which effectively cut business there by about 50%. 

While at the museum, visitors can watch a video featuring people who worked the original window talking about its history. The museum is free and open to the public.
