What began as a run-down bowling alley with holes in the roof was lovingly transformed into a charming quilt shop in 2004–2005 by its original owners, Becky Detert and Sharon Huse. On October 30th of that year, Old Alley Quilt Shop officially opened its doors.

For many years, Becky and Sharon built a wonderful business, offering quilters a fantastic selection of fabrics, engaging classes, and trusted long arm services. On December 30th, 2019, the shop was passed on to Valerie Smith, who continues to carry on the tradition.

Though the inside has seen a few changes over the years, Old Alley Quilt Shop still provides the same warm welcome along with quality fabrics, notions, classes, and long arm services you know and love.
Old Alley Quilt Shop is excited to host a Quilt Show at the Sherburn Community Center (located in the basement of the movie theater). This event gives local quilters the chance to showcase their stunning creations, many of which were inspired by OAQS projects and classes over the past 21 years. While quilts will not be judged, prizes will be awarded through a drawing. Quilters—this is your opportunity to share your masterpieces! Registration forms are available at the shop or on our website.

In addition to the show, there will be a Fabric Rummage Sale in the same space. Local quilters can rent a booth to sell fabrics, kits, notions, and other unfinished quilting treasures. We all have supplies or projects we once intended to finish but never did—now’s your chance to pass them on. Bargain hunters, especially those who make mission and charity quilts, will find amazing deals on quality materials at unbeatable prices. Quilters, register for your booth today—turn your forgotten projects into cash and maybe even fund your next fabric adventure!
