François Dompierre in conversation with Fannie Gaudette, Artistic Director of the Bishop’s University Singers

François Dompierre is a composer who has left his mark on both classical and popular music in Quebec. He has created works for orchestras as well as songs we continue to hum, and music for plays, numerous television movies and films. Some of his audio recordings, such as the one for The Decline of the American Empire, have had a lasting impact on the collective imagination. He also promotes music as the host of a radio program on Radio-Canada and through a series of instructional music books used in Quebec schools.

This event is free and open to the community.

We are delighted to have François Dompierre for this Donald Lecture ahead of the Bishop’s University Singers’ performance of Dompierre’s Requiem in collaboration with the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra.

François Dompierre est un compositeur qui a marqué aussi bien les répertoires classiques que populaires au Québec. Il a créé des oeuvres pour orchestre, des chansons qu’on fredonne encore, ainsi que de la musique pour des pièces de théâtre et de nombreux films pour le cinéma et la télévision. Certaines de ses bandes sonores, comme celle du Déclin de l’empire américain, ont marqué l’imaginaire collectif. Il contribue également au rayonnement de la musique en animant une émission à la radio de Radio-Canada et par une série de livres musicaux destinés à l’apprentissage de la musique utilisés dans les écoles du Québec.

Nous sommes ravis d’accueillir François Dompierre pour cette conférence Donald, en prélude à l’interprétation de son Requiem par les Bishop’s University Singers, en collaboration avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke.
