This Christmas, Blabbermouth Community Storytelling proudly presents an atmospheric, candlelit performance of the classic Christmas ghost story, The Mistletoe Bough, at venues across Somerset, Dorset and Devon.
Though now largely forgotten, The Mistletoe Bough was once one of Britain's most popular and familiar Christmas songs, something like the Victorian equivalent of ‘Last Christmas’ or ‘The Fairytale of New York’. The story at the heart of the song, tells the chilling tale of a Yuletide wedding at a stately home, and celebrations which go tragically wrong.
Also known as The Mistletoe Bride, versions of the tale can be found across the globe. There are several historic houses which claim to have been the location of the true events which are said to have inspired the story, at least one of which can be found here in England’s West Country.
Blabbermouth’s Dan Broadbent is both a storyteller and an award-winning archaeologist. His brand-new version of The Mistletoe Bough has been meticulously researched and explores the tale's long history, taking the audience from 1920s New York to Elizabethan England, via the battlefields of the First World War.
Many of the venues for the tour are in historic buildings, and each performance will be candlelit, to help create a suitably spooky atmosphere for the telling of the tale. Why not make a ghost story part of your Christmas tradition and join us for an enchanting evening of story, music and history (plus mince pies!)
Performance lasts approximately one hour. Suitable or adults and older children.
