Slow down and connect
Sit spots are a key activity in building connection with nature, and our surrounding landscape.
📅 Date: 17 January 2026
🕒 Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
📍 Location: Australian Botanic Gardens, Shepparton
💲 Cost: Free
Sit Spots are a place where you can slow down, body and mind and allow your eyes to soften into the flow of the land around you. Here you can deeply breathe and let nature help you release the tension in your body.
During sit spots, we stop and sit in one spot for a particular period of time, and focus purely on observing what is happening in that spot. We gently pay attention to the plants, the animals, birds, insects, weather, terrain, and the interrelation between all of these things, without the need to know their names or identifications, just purely observing them and letting all thoughts of your regular life slip from your mind. Once our specified time has lapsed, we gather together in a circle and share stories of what we observed at our spot. We will also take some time to journal what happened at our spot, so that if we decide to regularly return to this spot, we have some records to reflect on over time.
Over time, if we return to the same spot regularly, we’re able to really get to know the ‘spot’, its inhabitants, and its gentle rhythms. Returning to the same sit spot regularly over time can develop a strong sense of belonging, or being part of the spot and the broader landscape around you, which in turn has great positive effects on wellbeing.
Suitable for those aged 8 years and up. Participants aged under 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
What to bring: Wear comfortable clothing, bring a drink bottle and remember to be sun smart.
