- **Event Description**: A really unique gig and brand new improvised music from groundbreaking electronic musician, composer and improviser Leafcutter John (Polar Bear), now Sheffield-based, with London-based violist Julia Dos Reis (J.A.M. String Collective), interacting with John's custom software.

A continuation of a working relationship over several years, John remixed Julia's J.A.M String Collective track 'Monk Had A Dream" which also featured legendary British saxophonist Steve Williamson. This set will involve live treatment and spatialising of the sounds from Julia’s viola using software written by John. New music alive with new sounds and possibilities, we’re so excited to bring this collaboration to The Lescar.

At the forefront of UK electronic and improvised music for many years, Leafcutter John initially gained recognition through Mike Paradinas’ Planet Mu record label, and has since released 7 solo studio albums, collaborating widely, and was a key agitator in twice Mercury-nominated band Polar Bear. His discography spans the experimentalism of The Housebound Spirit to the folk-infused melancholy of The Forest and the Sea, which includes Seba, a track that comedian James Acaster put in his top essential tracks of all time list. His move to Sheffield, where he quickly fell in love with the Peak District and climbing, has inspired music that brings together innovative use of gritstone specimens and natural sound, using self-made machines to create something truly unique. 

London-based violist Julia Dos Reis works primarily with award-winning improvising string trio, J.A.M. String Collective (Peter Whittingham Developmental Award), who’s wonderful debut album 'She Looks Up at the Trees' was released in November 2025, a glorious mix of contemporary grooves and the sounds of viola, violin and cello. She also regularly performs with bands including grime/country outfit The Rooftop Assembly, The Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, and the BBC Concert Orchestra, and has performed at venues across Europe, including London's Ronnie Scott’s and Paris’ Grande Halle de La Villette. In 2023 she joined Courtney Pine for his 14-date Spirituality tour, and in 2019 supported Steve Williamson in a UK-wide tour.
