How to Keep Time

Using just his voice and an electronic drum kit, award-winning spoken word artist Antosh Wojcik explores the effects of dementia on speech, memory and family in his debut work for stage, How to Keep Time. Subtitled A Drum Solo for Dementia, this 60-minute show is a mesmeric display of drumming and spoken word in which poems become beats and beats become glitches in time. Antosh Wojcik tells the moving story of his Polish grandfather's struggle against vascular dementia and the effect it had on the people around him. What happens when memories disappear? Where do they go and can we get them back? The show will be accompanied by a guest poet from local live literature and spoken word heroes, Wordlife. See our website for more information. About the Artist How to Keep Time is produced by award-winning live literature company Penned in the Margins ( No Dogs, No Indians , Fair Field ). Early versions were presented at Shoreditch Town Hall, Camden People’s Theatre, Iklectik, Roundhouse and Verve Poetry Festival. Available for UK and international touring from Spring 2019 , with accompanying outreach/creative workshops also available. Antosh Wojcik is a captivating performer and experienced communicator who is passionate about using writing and performance to effect change. Maria Parsons of the Creative Dementia Arts Network has praised Antosh's “terrific use of drumming as a bridge for language in dementia”.
