Funky Drummer: global party flavours- a summer get-together

Still buzzing from the joy of our may bank holiday celebrations we look back on the past 20 months of Funky Drummer. Since our first event in 2023, we've held 8 more sold-out events. What a journey it's been!
This party aims to round it all up and distill it down into one intimate, hectic session! To do this we've invited 9 of our OG's and residents from Sheffield, Manchester, Bristol and Oxford. This lot are the building blocks of Funky Drummer and every artist has played at least once before. I can't wait to get everybody together for the first time!

- ALL tickets are ON THE DOOR at £16 (card only)
- Our events sell-out. We'd love you to get down at 7pm to secure your entrance and enjoy the full party! The band is on at 8:00pm. - We also want to keep this intimate event affordable, (not feasible if we're selling tickets online).

- Top tier grass roots venue with the best courtyard in Sheffield
- a beautiful attic room that we’re filling with a very large soundsystem and shit loads of lights (obviously)
- a record shop (Grub Records) with a wine bar and sexy hifi soundsystem
- & a downstairs bar with an intimate dance floor that might be the funnest & loosest place to DJ ever

- DJ Hiphoppapotamus:
After two astoundingly fun appearances, we welcome back our debut event headliner & global dance music icon! Emerging from Bristol, DJ hippo is a very experienced and totally unique producer and selector. He fuses the tropical sounds of Africa, South America and the Caribbean with hiphop, house, DnB and Jungle to create “sweet audible sunshine”. Whether at festivals like Boomtown, Glastonbury, or Shambala or venues across the world, Hippo is always a dance floor arsonist. We look forward to a 1.h hour set a massive OHM soundsytem in the Attic room.
- The Lemur Conspiracy (live band):
The Lemur Conspiracy is an 8-piece original jazz-funk band based in Sheffield. Comprised of an explosive 3-piece horn section and a compelling 5-piece rhythm section , The Lemur Conspiracy deliver enough energy to bring the house down every night. Drawing from an eclectic range of modern and traditional influences, spanning jazz, afrobeat and dance music, The Lemur Conspiracy write and perform original music that stands among the UK’s thriving contemporary jazz scene. They opened the show in style at Funky Drummer X Footprints and we are so pleased to have them back at prime time! This time they're collaborating with an incredible vocalist Gaurav Balli (of the Dreamflower Collective) for the show in the courtyard from 8-9.
- Ru Robinson:
Ru is a long-time global beat rocker and tropical selecta based in Bristol. After a killer summer on the festival circuit, and a trip to Malawi performing his brand new live PA project with the African Jazz Singer Sisanda - Ru lands in Sheff for his third Funky Drummer! His broad collection of global dance music is lovingly selected for the dancefloor, indulging in party sounds from near and far and spanning the diverse influences of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Ru has bags of experience, routinely featuring at events in the U.K, like Glastonbury & Shambala Festival and further afield, including a main stage appearance at Ugandas Nyege Nyege Festival. This is his third Funky Drummer appearance!
- Kom Kom:
Originally from Birmingham & now living in Sheffield, Kom Kom is a very talented and experienced selector with a taste for global music that is bassy and percussive . She is a resident DJ of Shambala Festivals 'Rebel Soul' & has held it down twice at Funky Drummer events! Kom Kom has been a record collector for years and it was when a promoter friend discovered her enormous collection of rare Soca records, that she first begun to play them out in public. Since then she has become a well known selector in the global bass scene, tearing up dance floors at numerous festivals!
- James Ussher:
Originally from London but based in Oxford, James Ussher is a very experienced and talented DJ that has graced our stages three times before. He began DJing at university during the advent of house music in 1984. His abilities to select the right music with technical flair led to bigger and bigger events all over the world. From UK and Ibiza radio shows, to weekly nightclub residences, Private parties & raves , along with music and film industry events such as the Brit awards, DJ’ing became his busy professional career. You can expect a full vinyl set of the funkiest house music.
- Phonetics:
Funky Drummer friends and favourite local promoter. They have been running the show since the early 00’s. Having had everyone from Gilles Peterson to Fat Freddy's Drop guest at its original weekly incarnation. Rebooting over the past years has seen events with guests such as Onipa and BCUC, combined with regular DJ appearances across the city and at festivals like WeOutHere. We cannot wait for them to bring a dance floor loaded selection of broken beat heat. This is their second time joining us! - Jodie Tyler: A fantastic local DJ of all things funky, Jodie joins us for the third time bringing her selection of disco/ funk with a sprinkling of latin influence.
- Bald Ethos:
Manchester-based Funky Drummer resident Theo brings his vibrant digital and vinyl selection, covering genres from across the globe. This is 5th time DJ'ing at Funky Drummer.
- Peter Rabbit (Funky Drummer head honcho): If you've been to one of our events, you will have seen him in acton. Often joined by a collective of musicians, his DJ sets are packed with energy and directed towards the dance floor. Expect afro-latin house, broken-beat, global bass and jungle in a two hour DJ set that will go up and down the tempos. He has played at every Funky Drummer, and festivals including Boomtown & Rosa!
